The Museum

The Museum-Workshop is a complex located in a cave where the rural activity of the area of Guadix is presented in 5 main elements: ”bread, cheese, wine, craftwork and its troglodyte past”.

A unique concept that will make you participate actively in our culture and experience the singularity of its location.

SPACES IN TRÓPOLIS

CAVE 1. THE SECRET OF THE EARTH
Enjoy our presentation video. Trópolis will show you the secrets of the area and its way of life, a millenary land that continues learning from its past. You will enjoy a unique experience.

CAVE 2. MUSEUM OF THE ZALABÍ BREAD, A GREAT BREAD

It is dedicated to the value of this basic piece of food that has allowed the development of mankind. Bread is a great treasure and particularly in the Valle del Zalabí,  an area where making bread has been transformed into an artisan work with unique characteristics.

CAVE 3. THE BAKERS' SCHOOL

This is a unique place. It passes on the experience and the knowledge behind a profession that has made the Valle del Zalabí well-known. The perfect place for an unforgettable workshop. We will show you how to make your own artisan bread. 

CAVE 4. OUR CELLAR: THE MYSTERY OF OUR WINE

This is a space reserved for the wine of the area and it is home of a great selection of bottles. We will explain how the wine sector works in the area of Guadix and visitors can enjoy a wine tasting in good company. 

CAVES 5 AND 6. POTTERY AND CRAFTWORK: ART AND HEART
Tradition, innovation, profession and enthusiasm make daily-life objects a piece of art. Clay is transformed into useful and unique items. 

CAVE 7. CAVE CURED CHEESE

We have recovered the well-known and unique cheeses of Calahorra and Sent. These are delicious specialities that are cured inside the cave following a traditional method. 

CAVE 8. TRÓPOLIS SHOP
After your visit and having discovered the secrets of this area, we have a selection of souvenirs that you can take home.

Museum opening times:

  • GENERAL VISITS: Tuesdays to Sundays from 10:00 to 14:00 hours.
  • WORKSHOPS: depending on schedule, please check with us.
  • ARRANGED GROUPS: times subject to agreement. 

Museum Admission, guided visit (Prices per person):

  • Guided visit: 5.00 €
  • Concession for guided visit: 4.00 €
  • Non-guided visit: 3-00 €
  • Children, ages 6 to 12 - 50% discount.

Duration of the guided visit approximately 1 hour. 

Reduced prices:

  • Adults over 65.
  • Organised groups of more than 15 people.
  • Visitors with a disability of a 33% or over and with the relevant disability card. 
  • Families with three or more children with the relevant official "large family card".
  • University teachers with their relevant card or DIPA.
  • Students of all ages and nationalities with a relevant student card.

Free entry:

  • Childen of 6 years or younger accompanied by an adult (a maximum of one child goes free per one adult with a museum admission ticket)
  • Official tourist guides with the relevant card. 
  • Free visit to the viewpoint of the Mirador de San Gregorio for groups of 16 people or more that are joining a workshop.
